The government is probably the only industry that has been hiring people out of the recession cooked population for the bolstering of security needs. The terrorist threats that have been materialized by 9/11 has spurred increased spending into the security jobs market where people from video surveillance installers, monitoring staff and maintenance crews are getting good news for the time being. The increased expenditure translates to more jobs which people gladly take (there are not much around) and usually give acceptable pay. Security experts are also in demand due to the increasing need for bolstering existing security at vital installations such as airports, sea ports and borders. Countries all over the world are doing the same such as in the UK which is considered to be the most video surveillance covered country on earth with a camera on every street corner.
